So today was the day the guide books promised some spectacular scenery and pretty coastal towns. And they were not wrong.
Got to my first stop, Bussleton, to find that begin Sunday, the world and his wife had turned out. What is going on I said to myself and Colin and drove round trying to find a space. Then I found out. They were hosting the second day of their annual Jetty Swim, a 3.6km Jetty Swim (it is the longest one in Australia and very very pretty) and the town was mobbed. Unfortunately, like the majority of my timings on this trip, the swim was almost over but there were till some hardy souls out ther, the winner coming in in just over 40 mins. Well, a finer collection of men wearing Budgie Smuggler you will never see again. Awesome, in a strange sort of way! I wandered through the crowds and decided that if I wanted to see this town at it's best it would be better to return tomorrow, so I would push on the my next stop.
Just then I rounded a corner and what did I stumble into? A bloody Boot Fair! Oh yes, complete with jam and marmalade, plants, fancy goods and more toot than you could shake a stick at!! I was in heaven, just gutted that I couldn't add to my extensive kitchenalia collection!
Onwards and upwards, Colin and I headed for the real surfer hangouts, including the incredable Yallingup Beach where the waves were unreal, really popular beach and watched the surfers for ages. Next stop Canal Rocks, where the sea was rough and the rock were ragged and it was a real sight just sitting and watching the waves crash over them.
Being a Sunday some of the place were quite crowded (at least 20 in some places!) but after the hussle and bustle of the crowds I needed to find some solitude amd I found it in Wyadup Beach. The water was so blue I can't describe it and the pictures (if I ever recover them) will not do it justice.
But I saved the best till last. Injudup beach. OMG Shut Up. Aquamarine water, sweaping white sandy beach that went on for what seemed like miles, killer waves and just a handfull of surfers for me to admire. It truly was breathtaking.
Sat there admiring the view for a good while and then headed on back towards Bunbury, really looking forward to my day tomorrow exploring Bussleton Jetty and the 8 metre deep underwater observatory they have at the end. I did stop off at a little brewery, Bush Shack Brewery, to pick up a firey bottle of Ginger Beer then Colin and I set off home in search of a good nights sleep and some internet!!
