Well today was the day that my booked campsites had come to an end and I had decided that I would head back to Perth to spend couple of nights and a full day in the city. I think I mentioned before that I met a lovely lady called Lesley, and her friend Chris when I was in Margaret River and she had very kindly offered to put me up for a couple of nights, and give Colin a nice rest on her driveway! So I had called her and arranged for me to get there early evening. So Colin and I headed of on our longest, and last, leg of the road trip. 254 something miles (I am now in miles, hoorah!)
I left at 10am and headed for a place called Mount Barker where I stopped and got 2 bottles of wine as my thank you gift! Then headed off through another drive of great scenery which again was so like England. Gorgeous trees and rolling hills and cattle gave way to the Wheat Belt that then became sheep country. Drove through a Cranbrook and a Tenterden (with the obligatory photos), stopped at The Wool Shed in Williams and then through Arthur River before hitting Perth city.
I was greated by a great fog which I was thinking couldnt be smog, and it turned out to be the smoke from the fires I had encountered a few days ago in Pemberton, and which I later found out were still raging and moving nearer to where I had just left.
I finally arrived at Lesley and Bruces lovely home on the outskirts of the city and was greated as an lld friend! They are truly lovely people and took me in and made me feel so welcome. We headed out to see Chris who lives nearby and it was great to see her again, then it was home for a lovely meal, my first sleep in a bed for 2 weeks and lots of tip on what to do in the city. I have to say, I did miss my Colin........!
