Day 12......

Up with the birds again and fighting the bug in the Prisoner Cell Block H toilets.  Bit overcast and rainy today but hoping for sunnier times in Denmark so I headed out early.  Needed supplies and some petrol but the garage was shut but I had just under half a tank so I should be fine........

Off Colin and I trundled, straight down the Southern Highway which was basically 90 miles of Forest and NOTHING else!!  Beautiful and stunning scenery but when you are a little bit worried about your fueld situation, there is nothing more you would rather see than a garage!!  But push on I did and then someting hit me.  it was beginning to look very dark and a bit foggy.  And I was sure I could smell burning wood......

Christ I thought where were those fires!!??  Now dont worry they werent that close but the smoke and smell was travelling and I was not in any danger.  I know that now but at the time it was a wee bit hairy!!

After working out how to change the sat nag onto miles instead of kilometres I was able to get a better idea of how far I had before the fuel ran out and the fire caught up with me.....!  I was fine!

Managed to get to Walpole and screeched into the garage, filled up, got a cake and felt much happier!  Walpole, I am sire, is a lovely little place, rich in flora and fauna, but I was not really up for hanging around to find out in the rain so got a coupla shots for the album by the water front and headed off for the main attractiom for today - Valley of the Giants.....

Not Jurrasic Park Dino's but trees.  Lots of them, very old and very big.  Basically you walk through the tops of these trees on a suspended walkway.  And it sways.  Now at a mere 40 metres this was a doddle compaired to yesterday and it really was a great experience.  The trees are so tall and majestic and most of them are hundreds of years old.  Met a lovely young couple who were out for the day and we got chatting then did the walk down on the ground.  This got you up close and personal with the trees, walking through the middle of some of them!

After perusing the gift shop it was onwards and upwards towards Denmark, via Bow Bridge for a coffee and a sausage roll (which ended up being a pastie)

Then I arrived at the aptly named Ocean Beach caravan park.  Very nicely situated on Ocean Beach (funnily enough.....)  It was still raining and I had a bit of a pants pitch, stuck out the back with the oldies and no wi fi coverage, but no drama, it was off to drive the local scenic Scotsdale Drive, taking in more of the fantastic undulating countryside that so made me think of England (the nice bits anyway.....)  Rolling hills, cattle and then a sign caught my eye... vineyard, wine, chocolates, champagne.  Now thats a say to a girls heart.

So I pulled in and no sooner had the vineyard owner uttered the words 'do you want to try some bubbles' it was out with the purse and a bottle of his fizzing finest was in Colins fridge, along with some macadamia truffles.

Last on my list was to check out Ocean Beach and as the weather had cleared a bit I thought it would make a good spot for my sunset!  After watching the surfers, including a man with a surfing dog (I hope the pics come out) it was up to the lookout to stake my claim on the sunset.  There was a lovely old couple there who are coming to Blighty in May and staying in Cranbrook!

Well after they had departed, along with 4 part pissed ageing surfers. I watched the sun go down on another day.  Definately ended better than it started.  Still keeping an eye one those fires.....
